Meet the Artist
“I am drawn to the stories people carry in their faces, posture, silence and light.”
Jenny Loehr is a contemporary artist based in Austin, Texas whose work explores humanity, memory, connection and the quiet emotional moments that shape our lives.
Raised in Northern California beside the Pacific Ocean and surrounded by beautiful redwood trees, Jenny developed an early appreciation for both natural beauty and human expression. A lifelong traveler, she draws inspiration from the people, cultures, and fleeting moments encountered along the way - from small cafes in Europe to everyday life closer to home. These experiences continue to influence the emotion, atmosphere, and storytelling found throughout her work.
Before pursuing art professionally, Jenny spent more than four decades in healthcare as a speech-language pathologist and healthcare executive. Her career placed her alongside people during some of life’s most vulnerable and transformative moments, deepening her understanding of resilience, identity, aging, loss and connection. That perspective remains at the heart of her artistic voice.
Jenny spent a decade teaching yoga, an experience that shaped her appreciation for stillness, mindfulness, movement and the relationship between body and emotion. Elements of reflection, balance, and emotional presence often emerge in her portraits and figurative work.
In recent years, the loss of her older son Jacob profoundly changed both her life and her art. Through grief came a heightened awareness of impermanence, beauty, and the importance of truly seeing one another. Much of her work now serves as both observation and remembrance - an attempt to preserve emotion, light, and human connection in tangible form.
Working primarily in graphite, charcoal, pastel, and color pencil, Jenny creates expressive portraiture and narrative artwork rooted in authenticity and emotional truth. Whether capturing the spirit of a loved one, the quiet dignity of aging, or the unspoken stories carried in a face, her work seems to honor the humanity shared between artist, subject, and viewer.
